Arati Ramesh, Ph.D.
I obtained my Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the laboratory of Dr. James C. Sacchettini at Texas A&M University. For my postdoctoral training I went to UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas where I joined the lab of Dr. Wade C. Winkler and was also a part of Dr. Kevin H. Gardner's lab. In my lab @NCBS, we are interested in RNA structure and how structure relates to RNA function. Riboswitches, bacterial RNA-binding proteins and synthetic RNA scaffolds that can be used as biosensors: these are some of the areas that we are currently investigating.

Dolly C. Mehta (graduate student)
I am a final year graduate student in the lab. I have obtained my M. Sc in Bioinformatics and Biotechnology from IBAB (Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology), Bangalore and B. Sc in Biotechnology from University of Mumbai, Mumbai. My scientific interests lie in understanding the gene regulatory mechanisms which are dynamically driven by RNA-proteins interactions at the post-transcriptional and translational processes and I am trying to obtain such insights using computational approaches.

Anirudh KN. (graduate student)
Interested in understanding the physics and chemistry that form the basis of biology. New to the domain of experimental biology, excited about learning to exploit biology to broaden our understanding our inner world. I am currently involved in characterizing the biophysical aspects of proteins that interest our lab. I enjoy reading manga and watching anime, also interested in coming up with scripts to automate basic tasks. I have a Masters from SASTRA University, Thanjavur, majoring in Biotechnology.

Vikram Sen. (graduate student)
I received my bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science from Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences and master’s degree in Genetics from University of Delhi. I am currently working on identifying the family of Iron regulatory elements (IREs)-like RNAs in bacteria which are cis regulatory RNAs that are present in the untranslated regions of mRNAs, and understanding how bacterial IREs contributes to regulation of iron homeostasis and cellular metabolism.

Fouzia Kalim (graduate student)
I am a research scholar in Arati's lab. I received my B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry in 2013 from Maitreyi College, University of Delhi, and M.Sc. in Chemistry in 2015 from IIT Delhi. My research interests are focused on developing novel fluorogenic tools to visualize living cells and using these tools to ask how the spatio-temporal dynamics of riboswitches govern signaling in vivo.

Anwesha Naskar (Project Associate)
Hey, I'm an Integrated Masters graduate, I did my major in chemistry from ISERC, Visva Bharati. A lot of my time goes by learning science and working in labs have helped me discover my love for bio science. When I'm not working you can find me doing sketches and nurturing my new found interest in science communications.
